Ring Doorbell Wedge Installation How To Get The Perfect Viewing Angle
/The Ring Doorbell 2 and Ring Pro can be mounted completely flat, or angled to create a better viewing angle. We guide you through the different options for mounting your Ring Doorbell with diagrams showing you how to get the best viewing angle for your Ring 2 Doorbell or Ring Doorbell Pro using Ring Doorbell wedges and Ring Doorbell angle mounts. These instructions will also work for the standard Ring Doorbell.
Ring Doorbell Wedge: What Is it?
The Ring Doorbell comes with and angle wedge in the box that allows you to adjust the viewing angle to the left or right by 15 degrees. However the Ring doorbell wedge that comes in the box does not let you precisely adjust the viewing angle, the mounting plate is all or nothing.
So you can either get 0 degrees adjustment or 15 degrees adjustment. In my case having more flexibility to adjust the viewing angle to get the best view from my front door is why I used a fully adjustable Ring Pro Doorbell Wedge available on amazon. The fully adjustable mount let me set the viewing angle at the exact angle that would maximize the view from my door. They also make a similar wedge for the Ring 2 Doorbell that will allow you to precisely adjust the viewing angle.
When you are mounting your Ring Doorbell you should decide if you want the to install the Ring Doorbell wedge before you install the Ring Doorbell or Ring Pro as the wires for the Ring Doorbell must be routed through the wedge attached to the back of the mounting plate. It’s also important that you order the correct wedge for your doorbell as the Ring Pro Wedge will not fit the Ring 2 and vice versa.

I have a wall next to my front door which is why I needed a Ring Angle mount with more adjustment.
Below we cover the different scenarios that warrant using a Ring Doorbell Wedge and how you can get the best viewing angle for Ring. Below I’ve also included the Ring Doorbell mounts that I used for my Ring Doorbell and recommend.
Ring Doorbell Wedge: 30-55 Degree Angle Mount Change
If you need to change the nest hello angle more than 15 degrees there are several 3 party options on Amazon which allow you to change adjust the Ring Viewing Angle between 30-55 degrees which is 40 degrees more than the basic 15 degree wedge. While 40 degrees might not seem like a lot it can make a big difference on what you see with within the viewing angle of the Ring Doorbell. The Ring Doorbell has a 160 degree viewing angle so it covers a large field of view but using an adjustable Ring Angle mount can help improve what you want to see at your front door.
Below we have provided several diagrams that illustrate what you will see with the Ring Doorbell in different viewing configurations with different angles using both the 15 degree Ring Wedge or compatible 30-55 degree Ring Doorbell angle mounts.
Forward Facing Ring Doorbell: Ring Doorbell Viewing Angle
The diagrams below show you the view you will get using your Ring Doorbell with no wedge, the view with the Ring wedge 15 degree adjustment, and the view with a 30-55 degree Ring Doorbell Wedge so you can determine the best viewing angle for your Ring Doorbell.
In the diagrams the field of view of the Ring Doorbell is represented by everything between the two red lines. The blue line represents the front of the house and the Ring Doorbell position is represented to the right of the door.
Without the Ring Doorbell wedge you can cover 160 degrees, but there could be a potential blind spot close to your front door. As you can see in the second diagram adding the Ring Doorbell wedge with it’s 15 degrees of tilt will most likely eliminate blind spots close to the door if your doorbell is positioned on the doorframe itself or close to the door.
If the Ring Doorbell is positioned further away from the door, the potential for blind spots will increase and using a the Ring Pro Doorbell wedge or a Ring 2 Doorbell Mount can help reduce the blind spots near the door.
In the third diagram we show the Ring viewing angle when the 30-55 degree Ring Doorbell angle mount is used. If your doorbell is mounted on the door frame the 35 degree Ring Doorbell angle mount is most likely excessive.
If your Ring Doorbell is mounted further away from the door the Ring Doorbell wedge mount could help eliminate blind spots near the door. The other potential reason to use the 30-55 degree Ring Doorbell angle mount in this scenario would be if you wanted to cover more area in a driveway, or a particular side of your house.
For most people if the doorbell is mounted on the existing door frame is facing forward in the direction you want to cover, there is most likely no need for the Ring Doorbell Pro Wedge or the Ring 2 Doorbell Mount but if you are looking to cover a specific part of your front yard or the doorbell is located further away from your front door the angled Ring Doorbell Wedge’s can help you get a better view.

But if your looking to protect your home from would be amazon package thieves and you have a side facing doorbell as shown in the diagram below it’s useful to consider the following. A package thief isn’t going to ring your doorbell and orient their face looking directly at your door, their primary goal is to get the package and get in and out as quick as possible they are looking at the package on your front doorbell not your doorbell. Often times amazon package thieves try and obstruct their faces as much as possible with either hats or hoods.
If the Ring Doorbell is mounted to the side of your door as in the diagram below you can risk only getting a profile shot of the package thief, which might not be as helpful to authorities as getting a full frontal face shot. In the diagrams below we illustrate the potential issue and view that you would see though your Ring Doorbell . The green side shows you what will be on camera and the red side shows what will most likely be obstructed from view.
If you have a side mounted doorbell you can add the 30-55 degree Ring Doorbell angle mount to increase the probability that you will catch a good face shot of a package thief approaching the door as shown below.
The first diagram shows the view with no wedge or angle adjustment. The second diagram shows the view with the 35 degree Ring Doorbell angle mount
